"Moscato d'Asti"
|
Mostly
produced by small wineries in the three
provinces of Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo,
Moscato d’Asti, which was awarded
DOCG status in 1993, has earned an excellent
name for itself, as well as great popularity
in restaurants and the best quality wine
shops, above all in Italy. It has also
been a success on foreign markets for
quite some time now. Production is governed
by different regulations from those covering
the Asti label, right from the vineyard,
and has increased in recent years to over
six million bottles. An attractive golden
yellow of varying intensity in colour,
sweet but not cloying, with the inimitable
musky aroma typical of the Muscatel grapes
it is made from, it has a delicate yet
intense bouquet which recalls wisteria
and lime, peach and apricot, with nuances
of sage, lemon, orange blossom and pineapple,
depending on the area of production. The
average level of quality of this wine
is very high, thanks to modern wine-making
technologies, and the use of refrigeration
in particular, which allows the wine to
retain its stunning range of aromas and
also makes for more suitable storage.
A great dessert wine, but easy to drink
at any time, it should be drunk at a temperature
of around 10 degrees in order to be able
to appreciate its blend of flavours. The
communes listed in the production regulations
are the same as those for Asti DOCG.
