D.O.C. "Monferrato"

Zona di ProduzioneNell'intero territorio amministrativo di numerosi comuni in provincia di Asti e Alessandria si producono diversi tipi di vino riuniti sotto l'unica denominazione di origine controllata "Monferrato".
Tale denominazione, senza altra specificazione aggiuntiva, è riservata ai vini: Rosso e Bianco, ottenuti da uve provenienti dai vigneti composti da uno o più vitigni a bacca di colore analogo, non aromatici, "raccomandati" o "autorizzati" per le province di Asti e Alessandria.
E' possibile inoltre produrre vini con la denominazione "Monferrato" seguita da una delle seguenti specificazioni:
Chiaretto o Ciaret, Dolcetto, Freisa e Casalese Cortese.

"Monferrato" rosso
Grape variety: grapes from vineyards planted with one or more non-aromatic red berry varieties “recommended” or “authorised” for the provinces of Asti and Alessandria;
Colour: red;
Bouquet: heady, pleasing;
Flavour: fresh, clean, may be slightly sparkling;
Overall minimum alcohol content by volume: 11%;
"Monferrato" bianco
Grape variety: grapes from vineyards planted with one or more non-aromatic grape white berry varieties “recommended” or “authorised” for the provinces of Asti and Alessandria;
Colour: straw yellow;
Bouquet: characteristic, intense, pleasing;
Flavour: fresh, dry, may be slightly sparkling;
Overall minimum alcohol content by volume: 10%;
"Monferrato" Chiaretto or Ciaret
Grape variety: at least 85% Barbera, Bonarda Piemontese, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Dolcetto, Freisa, Grignolino, Pinot noir or Nebbiolo, singly or combined; the remaining part may be made up of non-aromatic varietals “recommended” or “authorised” for the provinces of Asti and Alessandria;
Colour: rosé or light ruby red;
Bouquet: heady, delicate, pleasing;
Flavour: clean and harmonious;
Overall minimum alcohol content by volume: 10.5%;
"Monferrato" Dolcetto
Grape variety: at least 85% Dolcetto; the remaining part may be made up of non-aromatic red berry varietals “recommended” or “authorised” for the provinces of Asti and Alessandria;
Colour: ruby red;
Bouquet: heady, characteristic, pleasing;
Flavour: clean, pleasingly bitterish, good body, harmonious;
Overall minimum alcohol content by volume: 11%;
"Monferrato" Freisa
Grape variety: at least 85% Freisa; the remaining part may be made up of non-aromatic red berry varietals “recommended” or “authorised” for the provinces of Asti and Alessandria;
Colour: ruby red, may tend towards garnet;
Bouquet: characteristic, delicate;
Flavour: clean and ‘amabile’, bitterish, may be slightly sparkling;
Overall minimum alcohol content by volume: 11%;
"Monferrato Casalese" Cortese
Grape variety: at least 85% from vineyards planted with Cortese, the remaining part may be made up of non-aromatic white berry varietals “recommended” or “authorised” for the provinces of Asti and Alessandria;
Colour: light straw yellow, may tend towards greenish;
Bouquet: characteristic, delicate, very subtle but lasting;
Flavour: clean, harmonious, full-flavoured, pleasingly bitterish;
Overall minimum alcohol content by volume: 10.5 %.
