D.O.C. "Freisa d'Asti"

Zona di Produzione Freisa d'Asti is made from an historic Piedmontese grape variety and produced in the hilly area of the province of Asti.
Freisa d'Asti is cherry red or garnet in colour, with a characteristic fragrance of raspberry or roses and a pleasantly sweetish, fresh palate. The minimum strength is 11%: the dry variety is suitable throughout the meal, while the sweet variety should be served with dessert. There are also "spumante naturale" or "frizzante" versions.

 
D.O.C. status granted: D.P.R. 1 September 1972, modified by D.M. 28 February 1995;
Grape variety: Freisa;
Colour: garnet red or light cherry red, tending to orangey with ageing;
Bouquet: characteristic, delicate fragrance of raspberry and roses;
Flavour: sweetish, fresh with a pleasing raspberry finish. The dry version is delicately soft after a brief period of ageing;
Minimum overall alcohol content: 11% by vol.;
Minimum ageing by law: not prescribed; when the wine is aged until 1 November of the year following the harvest and has been made from grapes with an overall minimum natural alcohol content of 11.5%, it can be denoted "superiore".
