D.O.C. "Barbera del Monferrato"

Zona di ProduzioneThis wine is produced in the province of Alessandria and partly in the province of Asti. It is made from the Barbera grape variety with the possible addition of a small percentage of Freisa, Grignolino and Dolcetto.
Barbera del Monferrato is ruby red in colour, with a heady bouquet and a dry palate. It has medium body and may be slightly sparkling or sparkling.
The wine must have a minimum alcohol content of 11.5% by vol. and can be drunk throughout the meal.

 

D.O.C. status granted: D.M. 26 July 2001;
Grape variety: from 85% to 100% Barbera; up to a maximum of 15% of Freisa, Grignolino and Dolcetto, singly or combined;
Colour: ruby red of varying intensity;
Bouquet: heady;
Flavour: dry or very slightly sweet, medium body, may be slightly sparkling or sparkling; Overall minimum alcohol content by volume: 11.5% by vol.;
Minimum ageing by law: not prescribed; when the wine has been made from grapes with a total minimum natural alcohol content by volume of 12.5%, and has been aged for not less than a year, at least 6 months of which must be in oak barrels, it can be denoted "superiore".
