According
to history, Soglio was part of Asti from
Medieval times, and following this the
village had many different feudal owners,
from the local feudal lords to the Counts
of Biandrate towards the middle of the
thirteenth century, to the council of
Asti and in the end to the Pelletta family.
At the beginning of the 16th century the
Pelletta ceded a part of the feudal land
to the Novelli, who then granted it to
the Asinari. Towards the mid seventeen
hundreds, the lords of Bergolo della Valle
took on the job of updating the castle,
which lies at the top of the town.

| LOCAL
AREA - ECONOMY |
| The
area of Soglio is mainly hilly and lies between
the valley of the river Bravile to the south
and that of Rilate to the north. From a distance
the castle can be seen emerging from the woods
surrounding the village. Around the castle
run two circular roads on different levels,
which enclose the village and preserve its
original historic layout, making Soglio quite
unique in the area. |
| ART
AND ARCHITECTURE |
| The
churches of San Giorgio and San Pietro testify
to the late Medieval settlements of Germanic
and Franco origins. But without doubt the
symbol of Soglio is its castle. The most highly
visible part of the building is the imposing
escarpment, which looks like an eighteenth
century white country mansion with a courtyard
and well looked after terraced gardens laid
out with hedges. |
| EVENTS |
| The
patron saint’s day, dedicated to San
Grato, is celebrated during the first week
of September with cultural, recreational and
gastronomical events. During the first week
of August the Festival of San Pietro is organised.
The ‘Agricultural Cooperative’,
which celebrated its first centenary in 1997,
is still an active part of village life. |
