HISTORY

Of ancient origin, as revealed by the village name, which is derived from the Latin ‘ad septimum lapidem’, in other words the place at the seventh mile of the Roman road that linked Asti with Industria, now Monteu da Po. Within the county of Asti, the village was given in feudal ownership to the lords of Riva. In 1270 feudal ownership passed to an Asti family, the Comentina family. In 1314 the hamlet was destroyed by Solaro, head of the Guelphs of Asti. Under the lordship of the Roeri family Settime underwent a period of relatively stable domination.

LOCAL AREA - ECONOMY
The area of Settime is part of a body of hills that go from Sessant to Albugnano, in the north-west area of the province of Asti. Agriculture has diminished in recent years, making the area poorer, but the consequent creation of an undisturbed green belt is good news for the environment and represents a potential economic resource in itself.
PALEONTOLOGY NATURE RESERVE
Bordering the area is the palaeontology and nature reserve of Valle Andona and Valle Botta, an area which attracts much naturalistic tourism; this protected area is being developed largely on land belonging to Sessame due to the considerable amount of fossils present and the unspoilt beauty of the area, rich in woodland. Close to the nature reserve a fully equipped picnic area has been built.
EVENTS
There are local celebrations on Easter Monday.
The patron saint’s day is celebrated either on the last Sunday in July or the first Sunday in August.
The first Sunday of September sees the ‘Hazelnut Festival’.
