It
is not known when Scurzolengo originated.
Without a doubt before the year 953, when
it is first recorded. Various different
spellings of the name exist. It appears
to be formed from two words of Germanic
origin: scripsol and engo. The first could
mean “canton”, and the second
could be a forename. Scurzolengo became
a Commune before 1386. It was destroyed
twice: in 1416 and at the beginning of
the 1600’s.

| LOCAL
AREA - ECONOMY |
| The
winding road up to Scurzolengo crosses the
valley before narrowing and climbing up to
the village. The first stretch of via Marconi
reveals the existence of extraordinary craftsmen
in the village, with the beautiful brickwork
of the buildings which features chiaroscuro
effects, roof terraces, doorways, arches,
vaults, small balconies and loggias. |
| ART
AND ARCHITECTURE |
| The
castle, with its adjacent church, has been
altered and reworked over the years, but despite
its great age, still remains the symbol of
the village. The remains of the moat and drawbridge
were still visible at the beginning of the
20th century. The Memorial Park, a tidy, silent
tribute to those who lost their lives in the
wars, hosts the octagonal chapel dedicated
to San Rocco. |
| EVENTS |
The
Charity Festival (held on the first Sunday
in May), is dedicated to a celebrity every
year: someone who has a link with the village
and accepts the honour, responding with a
generous donation. On 10 August there is the
Patron Saint’s Day dedicated to San
Lorenzo.
The gastronomic event dedicated to ‘la
Fricia’, Fritto Misto, is held on the
first Sunday in September every year. |
