HISTORY

Around Revigliasco, place names of clearly Roman origin like Grisane, Arpeziano and Viano attest to the presence of Romans who settled here as far back as the first century BC. Even the name Revigliasco, which appears in a document dated 886, is believed to be of Roman origin. In the first half of the 12th century the land became the property of Asti. In 1531 it passed to the Savoys. It was then bound up with the fortunes of the Savoy duchy until the unification of Italy.

LOCAL AREA - ECONOMY
Revigliasco is known as the “village of cherries”. The beauty of its hills both when the trees are in bloom and when the fruit is ripe is truly spectacular. The two varieties of cherry: “graffioni” and “mora”, found in Revigliasco, are a characteristic local crop. Apart from cherries the village also produces high quality wines like Barbera d’Asti and Grignolino d’Asti.
ART AND ARCHITECTURE
The chapel of San Rocco, probably dating back to the seventeenth century, now bears the signs of its 20th century reconstruction. In via Roma there is the house where Vittorio Alfieri spent the first year of his life (1749). The parish church of Santi Martino, Luca ed Anna is a beautiful example of architecture; building work began in 1729 and was completed in 1742. The entire interior is ornately decorated, with the most remarkable work being the main altar.
EVENTS
The Patron Saint’s Day of Revigliasco is the feast day of Sant’Anna, celebrated on the last Sunday in July according to the tried-and-tested formula for these occasions: mass, dance, theatre show. But there is also a traditional egg-throwing contest, and a popular spaghetti dinner on the Tuesday evening. The Revigliasco Pro Loco association takes part in the Festival delle Sagre in Asti on the second Sunday in September every year.
