| HISTORY |
Loazzolo
was also the property of Aleramo, the
forefather of the dynasty whose influence
was widespread in southern Piedmont. This
village was handed down to one of his
sons. Over the generations it was enfeoffed
to Bonifacio del Vasto, then to the Del
Carretto family, and lastly to Guglielmo
di Busca. What little historical information
we have comes from the Codex Astensis.
The “castrum” of Loazzolo
had the function of defending and protecting
the secondary but vital route down the
Bormida valley and then up to San Giorgio.

| “LOAZZOLO
PASSITO” |
With
150 hectares devoted to the cultivation
of the Moscato grape, only three have
been selected for the production of this
outstanding wine: old, south-facing vineyards,
still planted on stone walls in little
plots of land painstakingly converted
from woodlands and wilderness. These vines
yield a small quantity of fruit, but of
the best quality, with the highest sugar
content. The grapes are crushed according
to the traditional methods to ensure that
the bouquet and flavour of the wine is
preserved.

Unexpected
archaeological finds have been unearthed
in Loazzolo, with research directed to
discovering the layout of the visible
structures of the fortified town, revealing
numerous walls which appear to surround
a little village, of around 8500 square
metres. In the centre of the village is
the parish church dedicated to Sant’Antonio
Abate, beside the attractive chiesa dei
Disciplinati.

| EVENTS |
| From
January to December there are exhibitions
of paintings, sculpture and graphic design.
On the first Sunday in August in Quartino
is the ‘Festa della Madonna della Neve’.
At the end of August in the village is the
traditional “Sagra delle Bugie”,
dedicated to the traditional biscuits which
are an excellent accompaniment to Moscato.
The events aim to highlight the area’s
key food and wine products. |
