| HISTORY |
Of
Roman origins, Grazzano developed around
the abbey founded at the end of the tenth
century by Aleramo, marquis of Monferrato.
For over seven centuries the Benedictine
monastery was the hub of religious and
civil life in the area. In 1612 Carlo
Emanuele of Savoy rose to power, and there
followed a long period of bloody conflict,
with the involvement of France and Spain,
which ended at the end of the 17th century
with the annexing of Monferrato. From
then on Grazzano was linked to the destiny
of Savoy Piedmont.

| LOCAL
AREA - ECONOMY |
Grazzano
presents an unmistakeable profile, with
its two towers, standing out against a
stunning backdrop of hills and vineyards
which yield some of the area’s outstanding
wines:
Barbera, Grignolino, Freisa, Cortese,
Chardonnay, Malvasia and Moscato. These
prized wines are stored in historic cellars
dug out from the tuff by the country folk
over the centuries. Along with its wines
the area boasts a rich variety of local
specialities.

The
home of Marshal of Italy Pietro Badoglio,
which is now a museum conserving relics
from the Second World War, and the memorial
stone on the hill of Madonna dei Monti.
The “Querceta Casalecchio”
Park beside the village: a green oasis
which is an integral part of the urban
area, offering the chance to hear the
sounds, take in the colours and experience
the sensations of nature.
