| HISTORY |
Historic
documents attest to the fact that Frinco
was an established community as far back
as 1100-1200. With a castle as of the
tenth century, under the jurisdiction
of the Church and Commune of Asti, it
was held by a succession of powerful Asti
families: Pelletta, Turco, Mazzetti, Conti
di Camerana, a branch of the Roeros of
Settime. It was later bought by the Oblati
Giuseppini of Asti as a Seminary for Novices,
then sold off to private individuals.
In 1487 the Mazzetti family were granted
the privelege of minting their own gold
and silver coins.

| LOCAL
AREA - ECONOMY |
The
commune covers an area of around 7.28
sq km, crossed by a busy main road with
good public transport connections to Asti.
As well as the village, where the town
hall lies, there are a number of hamlets:
Bricco Morra and Rampone, Gavelli, Molinasso,
San Defendente, and Valmarchese. The main
activities are agriculture and trade.

| |
Apart
from the Castle, which was requisitioned
during the First World War to house Austro-Hungarian
prisoners, there is the town hall, the
monument to fallen soldiers, the Memorial
Park, the church, the Graziano building,
various chapels scattered throughout the
hills and plaques commemorating historical
events, such as that of Bricco Marina,
which records the visit of King Vittorio
Emanuele III, who came here on 28 August
1928 to coordinate military operations.

| EVENTS |
The
two restaurants represent something of a tourist
attraction and offer the traditional specialities
of ‘bollito’ and ‘fritto
misto’: respectively, platters of boiled
and fried meats and other delicacies.
The events linked to the celebrations of the
Patron Saint’s Day are also worth experiencing:
held on the last Sunday in August, an ideal
time to sample local food and wine products. |
