| HISTORY |
The
history of Corsione goes back a long way:
the oldest document is dated 11 November
941, and lists it as being among the lands
belonging to the church of Asti. Historic
records show that the village of Corsione
was not always located in the same point,
but spread throughout the surrounding
hills. It was part of the estate of the
Monferrato Marquisate, then in 1630 the
fall of the Lanzichenecchi family coincided
with the arrival of the plague described
in the works of Manzoni.

| LOCAL
AREA - ECONOMY |
Corsione
lies around 17 kilometres from Asti and
can be reached both from the Asti –
Chivasso road and from the Asti –
Casale road. It is a farming village,
mainly occupied with wine-growing (Barbera
and Grignolino), and also offers locally
grown hazelnuts, other types of fruit,
and honey. There are a number of local
estates offering both grapes and excellent
wine.

Corsione
is also of historical interest, for all
those interested in the past, who enjoy
unspoilt landscapes and natural settings.
The most important sights are the parish
church named after San Cristoforo, dating
back to the end of the 17th century, the
country chapel known as “della Madonna
dell’Aniceto”, another ancient
site, and the San Sebastiano chapel, built
on ancient foundations around 1663.

| EVENTS |
| The
Patron Saint’s Day celebrations are
held on the fourth Sunday in July, with dancing
and excellent dining; San Cristoforo is also
celebrated in a similar manner. The local
cuisine definitely merits a mention: ‘fritto
misto’ – a platter of mixed fried
meats, fruit and sweets; ‘bollito con
bagnetto verde’, boiled meats with garlic
and parsley sauce; agnolotti pasta, and the
legendary apple pie, based on a time-honoured
recipe and offering a taste of the finest
traditions of Corsione. |
