| HISTORY |
Coazzolo
boasts ancient origins dating back to
before the Roman period, regarding which
there are different theories. It was a
settlement in Roman times with the name
of Coatiolum. Probably around the year
1000, a castle was built on the highest
point in the area, dominating Valle Tinella.
The first official records mentioning
Coazzolo date back to 13 April 1196. At
the end of the 13th century Coazzolo belonged
to the Diocese of Alba, but was later
taken by the Astensi family and granted
to the Cacherano d’Asti family.

| LOCAL
AREA - ECONOMY |
This
small town in the Asti area to the right
of the Tinella river, between the villages
of Neive, Castagnole delle Lanze, Santo
Stefano Belbo, Castiglione Tinella and
Mango, lies on a hilltop in the Bassa
Langa area of Piedmont, surrounded by
prized vineyards which produce mainly
“Moscato” and “Dolcetto
d’Alba”, as well as a lesser
amount of high quality “Barbera
d’Asti”. The local economy
is mainly agricultural, with numerous
wineries.

The
Baroque style parish church dedicated
to Siro Vescovo was built around the mid
seventeenth century on the site of a previous
church dating back to the 12th century.
The façade bears the simple style
of Piedmontese Baroque architecture. The
Chiesa del Gallo is a chapel dedicated
to SS. Vergine del Carmine. It was rebuilt
by Giacomo Spessa in 1689 and features
attractive architecture and many religious
paintings inside.
