| HISTORY |
The
hamlet has ancient origins and some archaeological
findings confirm the presence of a settlement
in the Roman era. The name “Castelletto”
is of Medieval origin. In ancient times
the whole village was enclosed within
the castle walls, around which there was
a ditch and scrub. Only traces remain
of the foundations, arches, passageways,
and walls underneath the castle grounds.
Towards the end of the 8th century the
whole population already lived outside
the walls.

| LOCAL
AREA-ECONOMY |
Though
small, Castelletto Molina has always been
a village of note, due to its favourable
position, imposing castle and turreted
walls, as well as the alacrity of its
inhabitants. It is surrounded by high
ground which protects it from winds from
both north and south. The territory is
intersected by the Rio Cervino. Agricultural
production is based on cereal crops but
mostly viticulture.

Castelletto
Molina has an enviable production of wines
of D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. status. The local
wineries produce some excellent Barbera
d’Asti, Dolcetto d’Asti, Barbera
Monferrato, Grignolino d’Asti, Freisa
d’Asti, Brachetto d’Acqui,
Moscato d’Asti, Chardonnay, and
Cortese Alto Monferrato.
|
| EVENTS |
The
festival of San Bartolomeo is held on 24 August
each year, showcasing traditional local produce,
alongside an exhibition of vintage tractors.
Organised by the Pro Loco Association, it
offers entertainment and food and wine tastings
for visitors and locals alike.
Castelletto Molina also has a “Bottega
del Vino”, which promotes the local
wines. |
