| HISTORY |
This
area may have been inhabited by the Liguri
and was definitely inhabited by the Celts,
and the village became a place of passage
as it stood on the connecting axis between
the Aemilia Scauri route and the towns
of Alba Pompeia (Alba), Forum Fulvi and
Valentia (Valenza). Following the Longobard
invasion the territorial structure of
the valley underwent certain changes.
Country villas were abandoned as the few
remaining farmers preferred aggregation
in order to better organise and defend
themselves. Evidence of this is one of
the many castles built in the 10th century,
first mentioned in 967.

| LOCAL
AREA-ECONOMY |
Despite
the modest dimensions of the village,
the municipal area is vast and comprehends
great areas almost entirely dedicated
to viticulture. Barbera is the traditional
cultivation, but there are also Moscato,
Dolcetto, Cortese and other varieties
which have undergone a definite increase
in the last few decades. A large part
of the municipal area is in fact occupied
by the premises of the Cantina Sociale,
established in 1954 by Don Carlo Montrucchio.

Castel
Boglione does not have a well-defined
Medieval centre. There is nothing left
of the original castle. However there
is no shortage of religious buildings
with a certain artistic merit. The majestic
newly built parish church, dedicated to
the Sacred Heart, is in an eclectic neo-Romanesque
style, with Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical
elements: built in the form of a Latin
cross, there are three naves and a large
octagonal dome.

| EVENTS |
| Castel
Boglione, not withstanding its slightly off-route
position, has for a number of decades been
at the centre of an important flow of tourists
mainly due to the presence of important enological
structures and a well equipped campsite which
takes the ancient name of the Castelvero county.
There are various events, with music, sports
competitions, gastronomy and entertainment
during the festivities for the Ferragosto
holiday, organised by the Pro Loco Association.
