| HISTORY |
The
settlement and the original inhabitants
of Casorzo date back to the Celtic period,
when a number of cheese-makers, “Casurciuli”,
as they were called by Pliny, came together
on the hill which then took its name from
them: Casurcium or Casurtium. This then
became a key rural town in terms of population
and activity, in an area which was not
on the main trading routes, but which
offered fertile land well suited for wine-growing,
which soon flourished.

| LOCAL
AREA - ECONOMY |
Casorzo
is an attractive little village in the
Monferrato hills. Wine has been produced
here since time immemorial. The south
facing aspect of the land, the particular
soil characteristics (lime and clay) and
the traditional “guyot” method
of cultivation produce wines which accentuate
the flavours and scents of the Monferrato.
The most important, best known label is
Malvasia, a celebratory wine produced
exclusively in Casorzo.
|
“MALVASIA
DI CASORZO DOC”
|
Its
intense rose-scented bouquet makes Malvasia
seem more like a floral nectar than a
wine. The light red colour highlights
the gentle, delicate process used to make
it, ensuring that the more subtle, elusive
characteristics of the fruit are preserved.
Its genteel, exquisite aroma is backed
by a minimum alcohol content, just 6%.
Malvasia di Casorzo, which has had DOC
status since 1968, is a sparkling wine
which can be drunk with any kind of dessert
or fruit salad.
